Best 7 Heavy Duty Sewing Machine Reviews

What is a heavy-duty sewing machine and why do I need it?

A heavy-duty sewing machine is a machine made to sew a lot. They are more quality and longer-lasting than regular sewing machines. If you are a heavy-duty sewer or at least plan to become one, you’ll need one of those.

Even if you aren’t planning to sew all the time, but you want to invest in the future and have a sewing machine that will last long a heavy-duty sewing machine is something you’ll buy.

The biggest advantage, if we exclude durability, is that you don’t have to maintain a heavy-duty sewing machine the way you have to a regular one.

What do I think when I say durability? Parts of the best heavy duty sewing machines are mostly made of stainless steel and brass. Therefore you’ll avoid plastic parts that break easily.

Next, you’ll sew faster with less skipped stitches. On long runs, buying a heavy-duty sewing machine will be the best business move. On the other hand, if you only sew from time to time, repairing, for example, your old clothes, you don’t have to invest in such a sewing machine.

Heavy-duty sewing machines are used to sew through tough materials. Take the leather as an example. It is a tough and sturdy material. If you are going to work with leather, you’ll need a machine that can handle the pressure. Of course, you’ll need heavy duty needles, but if you don’t have a good quality sewing machine, strong and solid, hardly you’ll work with leather. The same is with denim and other heavy-duty fabrics!

Also, this type of sewing machine has the strength to sew through multiple layers of fabrics. When I test, I never use less than three layers (of denim mostly) to check the machine’s strength and possibilities. If it can go through multiple fabric layers without troubles and skipped stitches, I can say it’s recommendable for heavy-duty fabrics.

1. SINGER Heavy Duty 4423 Sewing Machine

What makes an ideal heavy duty sewing machine?

For all professional sewers, a heavy-duty sewing machine is necessary. How to decide which one suits you best? Here’s the deal, there is a couple of things you need to pay attention to before you buy an ideal heavy duty sewing machine.

  • Type – There are different types of heavy-duty sewing machines. Which one you’ll choose depends strictly on your skills and needs. Modern heavy-duty sewing machines are mostly computerized (automatic). From my point of view, they are very useful because they finish lots of things automatically and leave you more time to work on some more important things. On the other hand, I know a lot of people who like mechanical machines and therefore will never choose an automatic sewing machine. You can also choose an electric sewing machine. Next, there are some specialized for embroidery on heavy-duty fabrics, and it’s a good idea to own one if you are keen on improving in the sewing business. Overlock sewing machines are very helpful since overlock stitch is pretty important with almost all sewing projects.
  • Build – With heavy-duty sewing machines this part is very important. You need to have a strong machine if you are going to sew on heavy-duty You should choose machines with strong parts (stainless steel, aluminum) and avoid plastic parts.
  • Speed – It’s unlikely you’ll buy a special heavy duty sewing machine if you aren’t professional; and if you are one, you’ll need an adequate sewing speed. Most heavy duty sewing machines have high speed (1,100 stitches per minute).
  • Stitches available – Most machines have built-in stitches. The more stitches you get, the more sewing options you’ll have.
  • Presser foot lift – What’s most sewing machines’ manufacturers intend to make sewing physically easier and at the same time faster. How many times did it happen to forget to lift a presser foot? Modern machines have a start/stop button that is pretty helpful in these situations.
  • Price and warranty – It is expected that you’ll have to pay for quality. For a heavy duty sewing machine, you shouldn’t save money. Every job wants investments, and sewing isn’t different. But, there are many options not to spend a fortune on a sewing machine. You can get it at a discount, for example. Or, you can buy a secondhand sewing machine. With the second option, it’s hard to get a warranty. Therefore, we suggest the first one. Search online or ask your local dealer for possible discounts. You’ll pay less and still get your warranty. Why is the warranty so important? Well, because of breaking. If you have an adequate warranty, you will be able to replace certain parts without paying for it!

A heavy duty machine is a must if you are going to sew professionally. It is sturdy, strong, and durable. If you want to work with leather or heavyweight denim, you can’t do it without the best heavy duty sewing machine. They are made to last long and handle the hardest materials.

The Toyota Production System

The quality of Japanese machines and their parts go beyond limits. Their production systems are among the best in the world, especially Toyota Production System. So, If we had enough trust to buy their cars why would it be any different with their sewing machines. But, before we go to that part, let’s get to know this famous Toyota Production System!

Modular Production System is based on cooperation between a group of people working as a team (module). Each participant works on several operations and makes production quick and quality. This kind of work and production is trustworthy, at least for me. But Toyota sewing machine sales prove I’m right!

MPS assures quality, low costs, and efficiency. Therefore Toyota sewing machines have a long warranty (5 years on sewing head) and a two-year warranty on the motor, speed controls, and another garment.

It’s not surprising that some of the best heavy duty sewing machines are made exactly by Toyota.
